Question of the Week

Question for the week of March 25, 2002:

Our question this week comes Cindy

I would like anyone's opinion of the handiquilter?

Linda Dixon :
I am very pleased with the Handiquilter. I have had it since November of last year and have completed 5 quilts from full to baby.
The directions were great and My husband said they must have been put together by a woman and that's fine with me because they are easily understood...I just pop in the vcr and go with it VERY EASY.

Barbara Jean :
I have one and it is a time saver. If you quilt alot I would recommend buying one.
Liz :
I found this article to be a comprehensive review of the handiquilter. Maybe it would help. I did test-frive a handi quilter set up at a local quilt shop....I think it would be OK, just take some getting used to.

David McCallum :
The Handiquilter is very good.
But ask a few questions of yourself
first. How much am I going to use it?
A lot ?, you'll love it. Am I going into
business? You'll want one of the big
units that start at $5,000.00. If you
won't use it much the Flynn Quilter
works pretty good for $72.00. Or just
learn to quilt on your machine the old
way.
All, except the big "long arm"
machines, are limited as to how much you
can get in under the arm of your own
machine. King size stuff is out. Qween
size is trying.
The Handiquilter is well made, will
require a pretty good sized table to work
on, it takes some time to set-up (table
and all) but once up it does work well.
Mine is almost two years old and has seen
pretty good use and has been no problem.
Buy some cheep non-print fabric,
use contrasty thread and practice for a
couple hours. The next day you will do
better and the next you will be ready
for the real thing.
Get a friend to go in with you
and cut the expences in half.
But do remember, If you are going
to use the unit a lot, you had better get
a big "long-arm" machine. The H'quilter
is limited to what the machine you own
can swallow.
