Question of the Week

Question for the week of September 3, 2001:

Our question this week comes from Janet Scott

I am interested in quilter's experiences with the newer sewing machine's "quilting stitch" - the one's that resemble hand quilting. How do the various brands of sewing machines quilting stitches compare?

Renee :
My Bernina does a quilting stitch. It looks nice but takes a long time for each stitch to complete. I rarely use it as the time it takes is not worth it to me.

Susan :
I just bought a Husqvarna/Viking Designer I machine with the quilting stitch. You have to use a clear thread in the thread holder and the color you want to appear on the top in the bobbin. The resulting stitch appears acceptable, though not exactly like hand quilting.
Pat Finn :
My Brother 2100 (8500) does this stitch. If you have a year to spare, it's fine but it takes too long for me.
Lenore Lawrence :
I've tried it on my Viking and it looks good but it is so slow that I've given up. I make big quilts and want to have it DONE!!
