Question of the Week

Question for the week of January 31, 2000:

Our question this week comes from Carolyn

What sort of activities with your guild have been instructional, as well as fun ?

MichelleP :
We had a meeting where everyone shared their favorite quilting tips and shortcuts. I learned a lot of things that I still use today when I quilt.

BrendaK :
Each one in our group seems to have their area of expertise or little tricks of the trade. It has been most helpful in developing our skills to have each one give us their valuable experience. Our quilt group is the most cost effective 'psycho therapy' I have ever been involved with. What a joy!
Terrie :
We had a workshop run by one of our guild members on redrafting a block to another size.

Besides the drafting information, I also learned to look at blocks in terms of 4-patch, 9-patch, divisible by 5, etc.

Brenda /Nevada :
Each person looked in a quilt book and picked a block they liked. I than broke that block down to its simplest form and made a mystery block. Only I know o what block was chosen or what it will be untill it is finished. When all the blocks are finished they will be sewn into a sample quilt.
Cheryl :
We had a round robin - where volunteers set up demonstration stations. There were 5 stations so we split up in 5 groups. Each group spent about 15 minutes at a station and then moved to the next. It was quite informative.
