Question of the Week

Question for the week of February 8, 1999:

Our question this week comes from T Finch

Are there any drawbacks to using basting spray when hand-quilting?

Janice :
I have used basting spray for 3 quilts,
including one king-size and really like
it.Cannot find any drawbacks at all.

Angie :
I have used the basting spray for more than
a year now and will never use anything else
again. I just sprayed a queen sized quilt
and have it on the frame and have not had one
problem with it. I mostly quilt in my lap
with no hoop or frame. This one is just too
big for the lap. I've never had one come
apart, the spray has always held it perfectly.
Just make sure you are spraying in a well
ventilated area, wait a couple minutes, and
start quilting.
Cathy Calvo :
I've tried it and here are the things I didn't like:

1. Some brands are hard to quilt through
2. It doesn't hold its adhesive power very long
3. On large projects, it's difficult to smooth everything out.
