Question of the Week

Question for the week of July 28, 1997:

Our question this week comes from Barbara Jenkins

How do you keep your stitches consistent when you are hand quilting over thick seams?

Maggi :
I too switch to a stab stitch but you must take care not to make these too small!

Jenny Svensson :
I do a few stab stitches over the thick layers, then carry on with the rocking stitch. Here in South Africa, most quilters use the teaspoon method of quilting.
Beverly Dentler :
Try hard, but not too hard. After all, would a quilt be so lovely if it were perfect?
MimaMoa :
I switch to the "stab and stitch" method when quilting gets difficult over the seams. The rest of the time, I just "rock and roll" the needle, and it works fine.
