Subject: Quilter's Bumper Stickers
Date: Sat, 23 Oct 1999 21:03:26 -0700

Have met a lot of interesting Quilter's because of a little bumper sticker I had on the back bumper.Just had to point that little car in any direction and it would find Quilt Shops all by itself. Now I have a new van and a lot more room but it is not the same without a bumper sticker. Didn't know where to look until we got a computer and met the Kaffee-Klatschers
Can anyone out there help me? Thanks,

Hi, everyone! I have been reading all the posts with great interest. I hadn't done much quilting for the last few years. Just dug out a SunBonnet Sue "I Love Laundry" kit that I have had for seven or eight years and have it almost finished. My quilting skills are not that great. I have one standard - I do it the best I can. If I make a mistake that can be fixed, I fix it. If it can't be fixed, it stays in.

My daughter bought me a Featherweight several years ago. I finally ran across an article on how to tune them up and it works like a charm. My goal was to do my present project strictly on the FW and that is what I have done.

Since I started working seven years ago I didn't think I had time to quilt. Now I realize what fun I have been missing. Thanks to all of you for your inspiration.

Happy quilting,
Virginia

On the subject of treadle sewing machines. I have my grandmothers singer treadle sewing machine. My grandmother used it alot so it shows some wear and
the cabinet isn't in such great shape. But I am going to get it ready for Y2K.
Seriously I do want to do a quilt on it. I have all the attachments for it. I used one years ago. I guess if you have a good sewing machine repair man they can get a belt for the machines. I haven't had much time for sewing anything lately. I want to make some vests for myself. And I have to get the tree skirt for my Christmas tree finished that is at the top of my list. This is all for now.

Subject: Perfection

Only God is perfect.....there is the old adage about
pioneer women intentionally making one mistake on
their quilt for that reas.

Also, I read somewhere that the purpose of a mistake
in a quilt is to keep the bad dreams away.

We have enough stress in our lives without worry about
the FEW imperfections in our quilts...I am no longer
working but am certain that had I not been quilting
during my noon hours, off work hours and weekends I
would have been off on stress leave. Happy quilting
and the housework will still be there when you are done.

Steph,

I organize my fabrics by color. Just sorted through it again recently after
working on some projects that had to be quickly shuffled aside. Have a
special pile for prints that are no one specific color.

You wanted to know how to organize your sewing room. I've got the preface
solution, make paths and join FA=Fabricfolic Anonymous. If there is a way, I
would really love to know too. When your a quilter, you just have this deep
affection for fabrics, to touch it, admire it, dream about it, and playing
with it. That is the biggest problem of all, how to get control of our
affections for fabrics. "."

Hi to all members,

I'm looking for a sewing machine and am currently interested in a husqavarna lily 540. Is anyone currently using this machine and if so how do you like it and does it do garment stitching as well as quilting.

Thanks
Gail

Subject: Holes in quilts
Date: Sun, 24 Oct 1999 09:57:41 -0500

To Rene, who has holes in her quilts. I had a lady hand quilt a double
sized pink quilt for me. Her grandson was at her house playing with
siccors, and made a 1/2 cut in just the top fabric. She put a piece of
wonderunder or something like that, and ironed to the backside of the
top, and continued quilting. She pointed it out to me, and was soo
apologetic, but do you know that even after many washings, I can never
find it! I don't know if you have enough material to squish together
the mat'l so it is butted up together, but maybe that would work for
you. BTW my quilt is about 7yrs old now, and we have a lot in common,
I started sewing at the same age, and am a year older than you! I
always wonder what age person I am writting to in emailing.
Happy quilting.

Subject: I'd rather be quilting

Sure can relate to you...I'd rather be doing something with quilting than
just about anything. I'm still kinda new at this and not too organized so
haven't learned to cut or sew for a few mins at a time yet. It's more like
" I'll only do this for an hr"... Then mother-in-law drops in and probably
wonders how I can sit there when there is dust on the furniture! I have a
fuel oil furnace- there is always dust.
Taking my first "improve your stitch" class soon and I think it is a great
idea Lin had to take a muslin square for the instructor to sign.
Thanks to all who wrote about the FW that I saw. Will have to be sharper next
time as a couple mos had gone by before I gave it any thought. Looks like I
am new at bargains too.
I am also interested in info that anyone has about their quilt programs.
Would like to get one someday but I hear some are frustrating to work with.

Subject: hi

Hello everybody,
Yes, I often would like to steal away from work and go home to quilt..I
console myself with the thought of some day being able to stay home and
just sew...oh, heaven!
Val, I occasionally use my Singer treadle machine. It has a lot of
sentimental value to me. My grandmother taught me to sew on it. My
grandfather purchased the machine for her on the day that my Dad was
born. I have the original sales slip, with my Dad's birthday (4/12/18)
on it. I find the drone of the pedau very soothing, and use it mainly to
keep it functional. I much prefer my New Home electronic machine, but am
afraid that if I don't use the treadle it won't work anymore.
Steph-I throw all my scraps in a big basket, and strip piece a few
blocks at a time. Before you know it I have a really crazy looking buch
of squares, when pieced and machine quilted make a quick "charity"
quilt. I donate them to nearby homeless shelters where they are much
appreciated, and I feel good about not letting all those scraps
accumulate. If every time you sew, you just do 2 or 3 squares, they add
up quickly. I keep a pad af paper with the basket of scraps and use that
for the foundation squares. Try it.
This evening I finished my grand daughter's Halloween costume, not quilt
related but I'm glad it's done. I made her a Hershey Kiss costume, and
it's adorable. I do enjoy sewing for her.
Keep quilting,
Susan

Does anyone know where I can get some Celtic applique patterns? ( You
know what I mean--those big, loopy ones? I don't know the exact name
of them.)
