Someone was looking for chicken wire fabric. They have two colors at
www.suzannesquilts.com -- it just came in according to Suzanne's newsletter. Her shop is in Royal Palm Beach, Florida (west of West Palm Beach) and a reputable shop, in case you need to know that. One of the places I used to shop in Florida when I lived there.

The best way I've found for organizing scraps is to buy those big plastic bins as Walmart or a dollar store. I sort by color groups..blues,greens,tans,purples(my favorite!),etc. Or if you have a mountain of scraps could divide these groups into sub-groups of lites and darks. Keeps the fabric clean but visible and inspiring. DEE

Stephanie, I too had loads of those little pieces of leftovers. Some were
passed on to me by other quilters, or yard sale finds, or sewers who knew I
quilted and would use them. They were such a jumble. I took storage boxes,
they are preprinted, and come flat, and you assemble them, probably 12"
deep, !2' wide and 24" long. I wrote the color on each of the 4 sides with
black marker, i.e.; small print, light background, Blk background, red,
blue, large prints, theme patterns, childrens, Christmas,etc... You get
the drift. then I sorted them and stacked the boxes. When I need a color, I
can easily find them. I must say I have 18 boxes, but that's due to the
number of categories I wanted, to make it simple to find. It was a very
messy job, chaos everywhere while I sorted. DH was out of town, or he might
have had a stroke.
I am using this stash for scrap quilts, and appliqu=E9 projects, and crafting things. Fells good to know where that piece I need is located.
I am also making a yo-yo table cloth, so that takes alot of different
pieces, and so does the watercolor quilts I do.

Subject: SERGERS?
Hi Iam Elaine f..I have been getting KK for a while but not
posted....I lurk.....I have been quilting for 4 yrs...and am self
taught.....I was wondering if someone could briefly explain the
difference between sergers and reg machines... I have a Singer...i have
seen the sergers and am not clear what the differerence is and how one
is better than the other.......>>thats what happens when you are self
taught!>>>

Subject: Help with ideas!
I have been lurking for a while but this is my first time writing in. I am
wondering if anyone could help me with two questions. First, I have been
asked to make a block for a classroom quilt, the theme of which is literacy
and learning over the last millennium! I only have about a 6" block of
muslin to work in and it has to include a signature. I was thinking of
making a little cloth book with some of my favorite titles/authors and
attaching it to the muslin but have no idea how to execute it! My second
question is can anyone recommend a good book to make Christ quilt. I am
thinking of a sampler style and would like to do some of it by hand (this is
s along term project)! Thanks for your help

Yes, I am guilty, of theft also. I work at a Sears jewelery counter.
Very busy dept. but because I am a type A, hyper active at age 57, I
also carry a piece of hand applique or paper piecing. Lunch breaks are
often no more than 20 - 30 minutes, but it brings my blood pressure down
instantly when over stressed.
I saved the great treat of doing quilts until I retired the first time!
But there you go, type A kicked in again + I went back to work after just a
few yrs. I've held most every guild chair over the years, but I'm just
sitting in for the following years. But I love what I do so I'll just
keep stealing (time.)

Dear Stephanie and others -
As far as scrap organization goes....what works for me is one of those
rolling set of drawers, plastic and sort of see-thru. I got mine at Costco,
but have seen them elsewhere, for about $25.00. It has about 5 drawers in
it and I organize according to color, blues, greens, etc. Works for me and
it rolls out of the way when I don't need it. Laurie

I love your trademark! Find another like a butterfly or something and
applique it over the holes then you have a real trademark that shows up
randomly on your quilts! What fun. Where is Alameda? You said you are
going to the cotton patch-isn't that Carolie Henley's place? We live in
Chatsworth Ca (San Fernando Valley) We leave this Wed for Santa Clara Quilt
Show-heard it is pretty good size. I am real excited about going!

Subject: Working and quilting

As I read all the messages this afternoon, I think I missed the one by Velma who must be in the same place I am. Every Monday morning I can think of so many quilting projects I'd rather be working on than going to work. I usually spend about 10 hours or more on the weekend working on one project or another. Todsu I'm finishing the machine quilting on a quilt top I completed in February. I also bought the "right" gold fabric so I can start the blue and gold "blue berry basket qplique that I want to work on. Tomorrow I'm going to a fabric hand-dying class. It will be neat to learn how to do it but Monday morning I will want to stay home and practice what I've learned. Im 53 so I'm a little too young to retire but I sure know what I'm going to do when I do retire. Marylee

Subject: quilting
Ouch!!!! Ever try typing after quilting by hand all day???? I mean
all day!!! I'm cramming---trying to get this queen size irish chain
finished in time for our Guilds show Nov. 3-14. At least now I can see the end coming around the far pole so there's hope!!! Already have the binding made so maybe I will get it done in time.
I have learned as I go to make the binding at the same time I am piecing
the quilt so when I need it --I have it ready and that way I know I won't forget and use that fabric for something else. Does anyone else do this???
It's been a cold -windy day here in Ohio and perfect to quilt---inside.
Well, I guess it's time for a bath and then some udder cream for my
