Subject: Hi to all
The notebook and sleeves idea is a great idea for keeping projects and pics
in. I got mine started too late and wish I had pictures and notes of all the
things I made in years gone by. Will just have to start filling it now.
Those old machines with metal gears would be worth their wt. in gold! My
little 1967 Touch and Sew even has plastic gears. I really wanted a new
Singer but the salesman said it was made in indonesia or somewhere so I
settled on a German Pfaff...that was 3 wks ago so I've only had time to play
a little but love the embroidery and built in walking feet. It also threads
the needle for me which is a time saver.
I love this site, (Thanks Sue!) and all the ideas and hints everyone shares.
Would love to get EQ Program someday. Maybe when it comes out with EQ10 it
will be easy enough for me.

Subject: Cat Killer Quilt
Dear KKer's,
Joan mentioned that she was going to let her new kitty help her in
her new sewing room. I just wanted to warn ya'll about letting cats
near thread. I was working on a quilt in an oval floor frame, Tipper
would get up on the quilt as I was working, and play with the thread.
One day she swallowed the thread. It wrapped itself around her tongue
and got caught up in her intestines. $500.00+ dollars later, we had
our kitty back. Several months later she did it again, and had to be
put to sleep.
That was in 1990, and I have not been able to work on it since then.
"Cat Killer" is still in the closet. It is my biggest ufo.

Subject: accomplishments
Hi quilters! For those of you worrying about what you accomplish in your
quilting, read on!! This applies to everything you do, but appropriate for
quilting:
The Race Against Time
--------------------------------
Every horse race has a first place winner and a runner-up. It is not
uncommon for the first place horse to earn twice the prize money.
Curiously, the number one horse did not have to run twice as fast or go
twice as far. It only had to be a nose ahead of the competition to reap
twice the rewards. Time management, personal productivity, and success in
life are a lot like the horse race metaphor. You dont have to double your
effort you just need to get a nose ahead of where you are now to realize
significant increases in your results. One way to do that is to have a
simple list of all the items you ideally want to accomplish today.
Prioritize them, and start working on the most important item first. It is
unlikely that all items on the list will get completed today, but success
has little to do with how much was left undone at the end of the day, but
rather, what was actually accomplished. Remember that you are only human and
you always have more to do than time permits.

Subject: Thanks So Much For The Encouragement!!
Wow!
In no way did I expect the responses I've been receiving the past few
days, and I just want to say thank you! What have I learned? Well...
1. Don't stress. This is supposed to be fun.
2. Find a quilting buddy or group to mentor and be mentored by.
3. Don't stress. It's SUPPOSED to be fun!
4. Take my time and the steps necessary to ensure accuracy.
5. DON'T STRESS! THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!
So, do you think I'm getting the message?
Thank you again for all who wrote to me. It meant a whole lot.

Subject: Journals
I have kept a quilting/sewing journal for the past 2 or 3 years and love it. I
write in it daily if I sewed or not, what I did and if I bought anything new be it a book, gadget or fabric. I also track classes I take and projects in the works or UFO's and date the projects when done either with the top or with quilting. I include in here swaps and such also. I find that I feel good being able to go back and see what I have comepleted, what I gave as gifts or to charity and what I never finished that I should go back to. I also find that it helps me to figure out why I am off kilter some weeks. I personally find that if I do not sew or quilt for a week or more at a time I get rathery witchy as my son says. Quilting/sewing helps me to relax and I can track those weeks when I do not do much and compare them to my calendar and see when I was overloaded and needed more down time and it helps me to plan my life better. I love my journal and plan to keep one always for my self and as a record for my family when I am gone.

Subject: a couple of answers
I'm going to kill a couple birds with one message, or at least I hope
so!
I have a Mac and I've used a program called SoftWindows to partition my
hard drive so I can run Windows (and therefore PC programs that I bought
when I still had my PC). I have EQ3 and I am very frustrated with it. If
I used it every day or at least pretty regularly, I would probably learn
it well enough to actually get something out of it. However, I only want
to use it occasionally, and I have to start from scratch every time
because I can't remember how to do anything on it. It was an expensive
program and I don't know if I want to throw good money after bad by
upgrading.
Also wanted to say that I have a 1961 Singer 501A Slantomatic, all metal
parts, which was my mom's and it still runs like a champ. She took it in
to have it adjusted and stuff about 15 years ago, and the repairman told
her to keep it because of the metal parts. I haven't tried out all the
fancy stitches on it yet, but it's a super duper machine.
That's it here -- I am behind on everything because of a busy work
schedule, but I need to finish a baby quilt that was quilted in June AND
piece another top. AACK!

Cathy, I went to Houston last year and it was just MARVELOUS! It's sooooo big
it's just mind boggling but something a died in the wool quilter should do at
least once. It's costly but just stupendous. Can you imagine over 750
vendors? And so many quilts that every day I found more I hadn't seen yet.
It's extremely well organized and the shuttle buses are very dependable every
half hour so you don't have to be close to the Civic Center. Go to their web
page and read about it.
I have been to Paducah several times and love that too but it pales by
comparison to the size of Houston. Paducah knocks itself out for quilters and
it's fun. There again, hard to find a room. They're booked up a year ahead.
It's nice too and doesn't cost as much as going to Houston. You'll love either
one.
