I haven't been quilting for about a month. Enjoying the cool weather before the snow flies. I have to work on some UFO's this winter. My hubby wants his flannel couch quilt finished. So that goes to the top of my to do list. When a person has to work, work takes up so much sewing time. But I have to support my habit somehow. I don't sew fast enough to sell. Saw the post about double wedding ring. OOOHHH I want to do one now. That is one of my favorite patterns to look at. I guess that goes on my to do list as well. bye for now.

Subject: quilt magazines and Singer Sew.Mach.
Hi... I subscribe to every quilt magazine (seems that way) at one time
or another and I still get Quilters Newsletter (It comes out l0
times/year and I like that) and the Quilt Magazine (comes out
4/times/year) but has more usable patterns.
On the Old Singers...I have a Singer 30l that I bought at a garage sale
and really like it. for straight piece sewing and w/walking foot you
can't beat it. The tention beats my computer hands down. Sometimes
computer machine likes to get touchy but the old singer just hums
along. Just finished a fluffy jacket and had to go to 30l and use
walking foot because my computer machine wouldn't handle it. I paid
$25.00 for this little gem w/cabinet and stool and feel it was worth
every bit. I also have a Kenmore portable I take to classes, retreats
etc. DH says no more machines. ha. We'll see. Thanks for all the news

I just finished up sewing the ties on the orange and blue stadium seat covers, for the band. The orange ones were stretch knit so I had to use my Viking on it. The blue ones were canvas and another mom complained about trying to sew on the canvas as her machine didn't take to the weight very well. So I finished them up on my Singer Featherweight. It worked like a dream, sewing through 8 thickness' (in some parts) of canvas without a hiccup! I love my Featherweight! For those of you looking for a new machine - buy and old one!
Regarding the post about the Viking 500. I know nothing, however I do know that the lower end less expensive Viking machines are now being made in Asia somewhere as opposed to Europe. I would make sure the 500 is made in Europe as the benefit of the Viking machines is that they are made so well. The ones made in Asia are not of the same quality, and therefore cheaper. I have two of the higher end Vikings. My 18 year old machine is just as good as the new one! Still runs really well even though I have sewed a lot of weird stuff on it. I love the fact that Vikings have an anti jam mechanism in the bobbin. I never jam... (I don't cook much either...)

Subject: Quilt Frames
Hello everyone,
This is the first time I ahve written to KK, I had joined right when
Susan took some time off. Glad you are back and ready to go again.
I love to machine peice and machine quilt but have trouble with my hands
so hand sewing is out for me. My question is "Has anyone ever tried John
Flynns' machine quilting frame??" I saw it several times in ads in quilt
magazines. I cant use the clips when I machine quilt due to the stress on my
arms. I have tried every which way.. and just can't afford to send out all
my quilts as I make quite a few.
So if anyone has used this frame for machine quilting I would love to
hear how is has worked for you pro and con. I just can't afford to buy
something else that isn't what it seems....
I enjoy reading this every morning nice hearing from all of you...

Greeting to all, so great to have this list back, It makes me feel at home in my new (months) home, in x a far way from New York - Buffalo - Niagara Falls area.
Looking if anyone has unwanted sewing remnants or project for cancer patients, I'm a volunteer with Victoria's Quilts and we make simple quilts for people with cancer ALL ages, yet we do start with children and young adults first.

Subject: I Could Use Some Encouragement
Hi,
I've been quilting off and on for about a year now, and as much as I
love it, it drives me crazy. I just can't seem to get the cutting
accurate thing down. My squares always look lop-sided, and my triangles
are horrible! I've made two quilts so far, and a wall quilt that look
okay, but to look closer you can see I've had to do a little tacking and
stretching to get it to work. Now I'm trying another quilt - one for the
bed and one for over my fireplace - and already I'm beginning to stress.
I don't feel like I'm doing half-assed work, but I feel like
everything I do is half-assed. Isn't a year long enough to get better?
Does it really matter after all is said and done? The family seems to
appreciate it, so I'm trying not to focus on technique, but love.

We are trying to find a supplier for the 1/4" marker...the one used to mark
triangles in the square patch...it is yellow and comes in 2 lengths...can't
find them any where...and our UFO group really needs them.Thanks Barbara
