Sorry I've lost some names of people who had inquiries, but here are a few responses to recent requests. The site for KC Star Patterns is: http://www.his.com/~queenb/kansascitystar.html . Shannon asked what we use for tying a quilt; I use Knit-Cro-Sheen in a needle with a BIG eye. To whoever asked about Project Linus, I would suggest a "search" for Project Linus sites -- there are many, giving lots of good information about this wonderful program. (My Guild donates "Linus" quilts to patients at Texas Children's Hospital and I am very, very glad to be part of this effort.) As to the "I never get anything finished" feeling, I used to do that a lot, and then I decided to issue myself a challenge. I began keeping a simple diary of the things I did complete (even to scotch-taping in a snip of fabric used in a project, and photos of quilts or other "big" things.) I was amazed at the number of things I did complete -- I just hadn't been giving myself credit. Going back through it a few months later, I had actually forgotten many of the things. Maybe some of you do yourselves the same way? I hope to get the book you've been discussing, about creativity. That is life's blood to a quilter! I am so glad this board "appeared" and wish to express my thanks to Sue (Thanks Sue) for making it available to us.

Subject: The Artist's Way
To Stephanie - and the Artist's Way: I was so intrigued by Stephanie's first
mention of the book The Artist's Way that I went to Amazon.com and bought the
paperback version - $12.96 I think. (Usual disclaimer for Amazon - just a
satisfied customer who likes to go book browsing in the middle of the night!). Now that Stephanie has further described the book I am anxious for Monday to come around - wish mail was delivered on Sunday!
For the machine quilter who was getting the loopy mess on the bottom: on my
first attempt at machine quilting I found that the big foot worked better for my project than the darning foot for my Bernina - something about the 'depth' of the quilt sandwich and how far down the big foot went with each stitch.

Subject: Appreciation/question
I don't even know how this great news letter came my way, must be from the
love of quilting. Maybe I submitted my name ... How ever it happened I really
enjoy reading all the posting on the subjects we all love.
Does anybody know the web address for Kansas City Star? I'd like to check out
their Kansas City Star Patterns that Stephanie was taking about. I'm looking
for the Amelia Airheart Pattern ..... Not sure if I spelled her name right? I
saw the pattern on Simply Quilts the other day. Nice pattern. Can anybody

Evelyn,
Two ideas that I have not tried and have no idea if they will work... What if you were to cut out the first border, and then applique the curved edges to the border to square up the sides.
Or you could lay the templates out on a piece of paper, fitting them together on the seam allowances, and trace off that edge. Then draw a straight line 1 or 2 or 3" away (however wide you want the first border) and use that as a template for piecing. Add your 1/4" seams and try inset piecing to fit them in.
Personally I think part of the charm of the double wedding ring is the curved edges on the outside. How about a dust ruffle instead of a border?

Subject: First Books for Beginners

The book that was recommended to me 15yrs ago and became my bible, was
"Fine Hand Quilting" It has all the basics to get you started. It is a
paper back book, so not really expensive. I must have loaned it to
someone, I can't find it to give you the author. But is has a picture
on the front of a hand quilting on a white on white quilt in a hoop. And
it has a burgandy color boardering the photograph.

I have enjoyed all the discussion about walking 'feet'. I have a Bernia,
about 15 years old and I purchased a walking foot for it, can't remember
how much I paid for it. But I would never put on bias binding on a quilt
without it. You don't need to pin or measure, you just sew and I don't get
any big ripples or pulled parts. My feed dogs seem to do find with just
regular piecing. And I use it when I quilt in the ditch with the nylon
thread. I am not a good stippler or machine quilter, But on small things
with the walking foot I manage to go around squares etc... I just need to
finish all my UFOs.... Happy Fall....

I am looking for info on the Singer 503A. Was it a good machine in its day?
Do you know anything about it? Have the opportunity to get my Mom's old one
which looks like it is in good shape. Would like to give it to a daughter

I bought a Pfaff a few years ago because it had the built in walking
foor and leave it on almost all the time. It made sense to me that I
want all pieces even, not only when I'm quilting layers, and the feed
dogs do distort at times.
