Karen,
Please don't try quilting thread in your sewing machine! I made that huge mistake when I thought I would teach myself how to machine quilt. No directions, I just did what I thought was obvious, sew with quilting thread. Loaded quilting thread in the top and nylon thread in the bobbin. Tension was a problem, but I adjusted and my machine, and change the needle to a denim needle to make it work. I completed straight-line quilting on a queen-sized quilt. It looked good for about a week. With further use the quilting threads have begun to pop. Now it's several years later and I continue to snip off threads that have come undone. The quilt is looking pretty sad. I learned a tough lesson.

I am looking for a pattern for a Lake in the Woods quilt, and wondered if anyone in your chat room would have one or know where I could find it. Thank you. Joyce

Hi Everyone,

So pleasantly surprised to receive mail again. I have been a subscriber to this list for a couple of years but never did much posting since I was working full time and not much time for quilting.

I retired this year so have gotten into quilting after a long time. Most of the things I have done has been on "cheaters cloth" but now that I have a little more time I have gotten more serious. I am currently handpiecing a quilt that I started piecing about 18 years ago..hope the material is still good. It is a flower garden pattern. I also have a king size Christmas quilt (machine piecing) started. It is a nine patch set on point. I don't know a whole lot about quilting so am still enjoying learning at my age. I have done a lot of sewing over the years but mostly clothes when my girls were growing up.

I look forward to reading the postings each day and picking up some tips. Sorry this is so long. I am mostly a lurker but just wanted to say hello and I am glad Sue and everyone is back.

Quilter's hugs,
Nell

I was thumbing through back issues of my quilting magazines last night and came across a good article by Doreen Speckman on "Creativity". It was in issue #53, from the spring of 1996, Quilting Today magazine. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Doreen, I feel a sense of loss and it was nice to read her
article and feel her sense of humor and sharing shining through.

Hi Everyone,

I'm glad that Kaffee Klatsch is back in gear. I was worried all summer
because it seemed to disappear. I really enjoy this list.

I've been really busy all summer making quilt tops...don't always have
time to quilt them but have fun making them anyway. I worked at the
Maryland State Fair for a few days demonstrating quilting and then went
on to the Anne Arundel County Fair. I won four ribbons at the county
fair this year 2 seconds and 2 thirds. I was really pleased.

We've been busy and put up a new web page that you are all welcome to
visit.

Welcome back!!!!

Hello my fellow quilters;
Many of you have asked where to give the quits for Kosovo or Turkey. If you contact the nearest LDS Church (The Church Of Jesus Crist Of Latter-Day
Saints) in your neighborhood, they will see they are shipped to Kosovo. The church just recently sent 133,000 hand tied quilts to these countries. They are always sending food, hygiene packets, relief supplies to victims of diaster
throughout the world. If you have futher questions, please drop me a line. I
think it is wonderful so many of you are thinking of these people. Also baby
quilts are needed too. After the mother gives birth to their babies, they
have had only newspapers to wrap them in. It has been a sad situation there.

If you have any other questions, please contact me and I will try and
help. It is so wonderful that many of you are quilting for these people. God
Bless All Of You.
        Sincerely; Sparky

I am interested in joining quilting group area. Since I am somewhat of a
beginner I could use some help & support in person. I have gained a lot of
knowledge just from all the kind people here, but I need more. I live in
Romeo, Michigan so if anyone is close by, contact me.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this group. I thought I would just jump in
and introduce myself. I live in SE ( see a few quilters
here). I have been a stay-at-home mom for 20 years and quilting for 15
yrs. I have recently started teaching a few classes at a local fabric
store and at home. I teach handquilting. My goal is to show people
how simple and satisfying hand quilting is. I am married and have 3
kids (20, 17 and 14), 2 cats and one dog. I love watching Star Trek and
hand quilting in the evenings. Thats me in a nut shell. Have a good
day all Cindy

I'm not a frequent poster, but I do enjoy everyone's posts.

I just called the Quilt Farm's 800 number to change my address and found out
that they were closing. They are in the process of inventory reduction. What a
shock!

Have a good one!

Karen , what a great idea to repair a dress or shirt! I
will keep my eyes open for you, but if someone sends you a URL, would
you share with me?
Have a great day!
-----------------------------
Betty , I feel like I know you now after reading your post.
:o) Hi! :o) You really like the square in a square?
We have a TV commercial here right now advertising the ruler and
instructions. I think it said &19.95. What did it cost you?
Would it be something I could use right away, or would I need to see it
demonstrated? (I am a very visual & tactile learner)
Send me some of your rain! :o)
-------------------------------------
Pam -
What type of quilt stand are you looking for?
------------------------------------
Susan -
The news about Pfaff/Singer was a big surprise to me! Now what does
everyone do for parts, repair, etc. I think I will stick to my
Kenmore... ;o)
-------------------------------
Margaret - Old quilting frame and quilt tops.
My first question is, how old is your daughter? Then the next
questions hinge on that answer. If she is young, then you don't know
how many children she will have (or grandchildren). If she is not
young, then I would find a family near and dear to your heart that would
love adopted family heirlooms! If you have no one near you.... I would
give them a lovely home! I have 4 daughters and 4 grand kids and I am
45 yrs.. old. Lots of time to quilt them and have them ready for future
generations. But I would still suggest first that they go to someone
you know well and love like family! :o) God bless you as you take your
time and decide what to do.
Now, about your quilt frame... where do you live and what does it look
like? :o)
-----------------------------

God bless you all!! Have a lovely quilty weekend!
Hugs and love,
Tensie

I am looking for a good used Bernina for a friend. Preferrably a 930 or
1031. Hopefully someone has one that they never learned to use, or has
hardly been used. Features desired are: needle up/down function and
with the flat bed attachment. Price: willing to pay a fair price
depending on the condition.
Thanks! Debbie

Subject: quilting projects

I missed the Kaffee-klatsch group so much. I am grateful that it's back. I
am still working on my king sized yo yo coverlet. Instead of 4650 yo yo's
though I now only need 3200. I am also making teddy bears for the fire and
police dept. where I live. I started that project about a month ago and have
already made 7 teddy bears and have 6 that are ready to stuff and complete
the embroidery on the face of the bears. That will make it 13 so far. I am
also working on my two children's holloween costumes. They both decided that
they wanted to be "doggies". Since they didn't like any of the patterns
available I have to come up with something different. Thank goodness for the
kwik sewing for children book. With the basic patterns that they have in the
book; I don't think that I'll have any problem coming up with something. I
also have nine quilt completed quilt tops to be completed. I love hearing
about everyone else's projects. I get alot of inspiration from my fellow
quilters.

Keep quilting,

Debra

Subject: hello to everyone

It's pouring rain here in Ohio-we sure need it!!! Good weather to stay
inside and sew.
I have really enjoyed this site the last two weeks!!! Being a new member
of the high tec society I had never seen it before, Thanks so much for
such friendly--clean chat and quilting information. I am amazed at the
person who has quilt tops and doesn't know who would want them.
Wouldn't we all?????????? Sight unseen!!!! I have been quilting for
five years and am totally hooked!!!! My first was a queen size trip
around the world which took me three years to strip piece and hand quilt
on a hoop. After that I invested in a Hintenburg frame and decided I
will learn!!!! I now have the third quilt in it---an irish chain. I
love all aspects of sewing and quilting. Have my own sewing business
and do lots of sewing crafts. Again thanks!!!! Jean
