Hi Sue:
Welcome back. You were sure missed!! I haven't done anything 'quilty'
all summer. Right now I am getting ready for DD#1s wedding on the 25th. I
am sewing my dress for it......haven't garment sewed in YEARS and have I
forgotten a lot!! After she moves out her room becomes my sewing
(quilting) room. I can't wait. Oh, to finally have it all in 1 room
instead of spread over the whole house and I will be able to leave
everything set up and just close the door. And my new kitty will be my
'helper'.

WELCOME back on board to KAFFEE-KLATSCH..
Altho I can not help Linda with the fabric she is looking for..I wanted to
share that in my feedsack collection there is a conversational/collectable
sack of Egyptian hieroglyphics..Egyptians walking one behind the other across
the sack..and they are in avacodo and black. it always surprises my audience
at a lecture to see a sack so sophisticated...it creates great
interest..someone one does not relate the rural home maker with Egyptian
hieroglyphics..
THE FEEDSACK CLUB is asked quite often for donations..and I send 6" printed

Hi, all,
It was so good to get the KK digest this evening - I really enjoyed
reading about what everyone is doing.
Some questions and comments:
Betsy - the lavender & buckwheat pillows sound intriguing. Can you be
more specific with instructions on their construction, please. Email
me privately if you prefer. TIA
Connie - for displaying quilts, etc., have you considered using a
clothes drying rack? Either the tri-fold or four-legged kind, both of
which have a number of rods for hanging stuff on.
Pam - I admire your persistence in doing the hexagon "I Spy" quilts!
I'm making one for a small grandson, but doing it in squares and
rectangles.
Carol - is the triangle edge of your baby quilt like prairie points? If
so, it might be a bit "poky" for a baby. I machine quilt baby quilts
because they need lots of laundering, and I think machine quilting makes
them stronger.
Rene - what is the special method for "John Flynn double wedding ring"?
My local guild makes quilts for a women's transition house. It's a
group effort, using some donated fabric. The work goes quickly when one
only has to make one or two blocks, and members share the sandwiching
and quilting.
Recently a friend and I visited the Quilt Museum in LaConnor, WA, where
there was a display of quilts ("Tradition with a Twist") by three
Japanese quilters. All their work was excellent, and the wall hangings
made of silk were exquisite. Joan Colvin is having a "fibre art" show
there during the next two months - we're hoping we can get to see it,
too.
Guild meetings start again this month. I'm looking forward to seeing
what the quilters in North Delta have been doing over the summer. It's
a busy time - already thinking about Christmas gifts to make.

I've seen (and almost bought) some very Egyptian-looking fabrics at
Hancocks. You might try there if you have one nearby.

I have found this to work well. I haven't used it long enough to know what
happens down the road but so far it's not fading and I see no damage to the
fabric.
To Connie in (where it's still summer) Lucky you. I'm up here in the
North where you can almost smell the snow. For your quilt show, could you
hang your quilts on ladder rungs, those should be easy to borrow, or folding
screens. You might contact a quilt guild to see if you could borrow some quilt
racks. Spread them across tables, chairs, etc. Be creative. Wish I could
come!

Subject: Egyptian fabric
Linda asked about Egyptian motif fabric - the latest Keepsake
(800-865-9458) catalog has a "sphinx medley", p. 27 of their Autumn catalog.
Only 3 out of the 6 look Egyptian, but it's hard to tell from the photo.
They might be what you're looking for.

Hi everyone--
I was thrilled to see that the KK was back!...
I didn't realize what a void I had in my heart---
I have not done much sewing at all since Jan....probably when the list
stopped...but that was when my mother died...and also I have an inflamed
scaitic nerve in my hip...trying to get that fixed.
I have two quilts I am halfway thru quilting, but need to get them out...I
have tried machine quilting...have the little foot and the free motion
foot, but I can't get them to do right...I just don't know what I am doing
wrong. the bobbin thread always seems to be too loose, and stitches skip,
the underneath thread has loops all over the place. If anybody could throw
suggestions for me to try, I would be thrilled, as I would like to get at
least one of these babies finished in this century!

Subject: Hearts and Hands for Kosovo
This past summer, I could hardly stand to look at the pictures of the
refugees in Kosovo who appeared on our TV screens each nights; found myself
crying over their plight. So I organized an ecumenical quilt day at our
church (Catholic, so a HUGE basement area to work in), and about 22 women
showed up. In the next 2 weeks, we made 55 quilts for the Kosovo refugees.
The women were so excited about the project that we formed a group...
"Hearts and Hands" meets each month in a different local church, and our
mission is to make utilitarian quilts (tied, not quilted) for charity, at
home and afar. At our noon lunch break, we have devotions and share faith
stories informally. So far we've finished about 20 quilts, and have made
many very special friendships.

Also, WELCOME BACK Kaffee Klatsch! Joined another list in the interim but
it just isn't the same. I have been busy with my new Bernina 180E. Not
only with regular sewing projects, but I completed two baby quilts for our
two new granddaughters, two quillows for Christmas (still have two more to
make), and a queen log cabin barn raising pattern that now needs to be
sandwiched and quilted. Also finishing up a Round Robin Block Exchange that
originally started last year with Kaffee Klatsch!

Subject: hi!! Glad everyone is still here!
Nice to see Kaffee-Klatsch is back! I am not having much time for quilting right now - just started medical school half-time and still working at the
same time. I'll be a half-time student for the first two years because I'm
expecting baby #3 on January 8th - so of course, I'm thinking about what quilt I want to make for her!! Yep, it's a girl! We're planning to call her Emma. I saw a design in a book awhile back that had log cabin patterns for the letters of the alphabet - and now I wish I had photocopied them or something! I think it would be a neat idea for a baby quilt. Does anyone know where I could get get a pattern like that?
I did get two quilts finished this summer - one for a nephew to bring to college in black, gray and red; and a primary-colors Attic Window quilt using
Noah's Ark fabric for a friend who adopted a son. As far as projects for ME go, they are still "in-progress"!!

Subject: Big Stitch
Hello to all glad to see this again. I am using the Big Stitch to quilt a
flannel quilt and it is going well. I am using black pearl cotton and
embroidery needles no. 5. I find it hard at first to increase the size and

excited to see this in my box. Its like being reunited with a good friend
you've lost touch with. Thanks for bringing KK back.
I must confess, I've been doing more quilt thinking than actual quilting.
Other than a couple of block swaps to keep my sanity, there hasn't been much
activity out of my sewing ,machine. I got real energetic one day anad sat up
til 2 am to make a new dress for church .....I tried it on and well, 20
pounds less and I can wear it! I remember now why I quit sewing clothes!

Sue,
I'm glad you had a rest and KK is back.
I have just moved into a new house but did make some PP valances for two
windows. They were pine trees with a scrap border. The pine trees were
scrappy also.
For the person who wanted an idea for displaying some quilts; here is one
I've seen that is easy and attractive. A brass coat rack was used. Over the
hooks were hung a few quilt hoops. The quilts were then looped through the
hoops and spread out like a fan.
I've made it through Dennis and Floyd. The sun is glorious and I am heading
for the beach.

Hello from Canada...this is one GREAT page...I love to quilt,and at present

I am not online much these days. I have started working 3/4 time for my
dh and I have just started Bible Ministry School. (me? school? oh boy!) lol I have a baby quilt that is in the binding stages and have finally decided on a
pattern for my bed quilt... But being a chicken at heart I will do a baby quilt
1st. I am in no hurry, being a slow quilter. But it is just nice to have a project going on if even only in my head. I thought I might have to give it up for the next two years, but I see I will sandwich in a minute or two here and there. Super to see what you are all up to!

I'm a new member, but had been told lovely things about this list by friends,
so I am very glad to be here. There are only two Gammill Classic quilting
machines in England - and I have one of them! "Gandalf" was delivered one week
ago so I am on a very steep learning curve
Shannon asked about Quiltguard. I haven't used it, but on her website, Caryl
Bryer Fallert makes a mention of it, and says she sprays wall hangings with
this product before hanging them at clients' sites. If it works for CBF
........

I hope someone can help me with this. My daughter is having her first baby after trying for many years. She is decorating the nursery in an angel motif. I've looked and looked for an angel quilt to make for the crib, but have come up empty. I am a bulldog about finding things, but have not been able to on this.
