five 4-1/2" squares of Fabric 6 - one for each block | |
twenty 4-1/2" squares of Fabric 2 - four for each block | |
ten 5-1/4" squares of Fabric 6 - two for each block | |
ten 5-1/4" squares of Fabric 2 - two for each block |
1) Lightly mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 5-1/4" squares of Fabric 6. | |
2) Place the marked 5-1/4" Fabric 6 squares, right sides together, with the 5-1/4" Fabric 2 squares being sure that all sides are even. Sew 1/4" from both sides of the marked diagonal line. | |

3) Carefully cut the Step 2 units apart on the marked diagonal lines. Press the seam allowances toward the darker fabric triangle. |
4) Mark a diagonal line as shown on ten of the units completed in Step 3. | |
5) Place the marked Step 3 units, right sides together, with the remaining Step 3 units being sure that the Fabric 2 triangles are placed over the Fabric 6 triangles. Sew 1/4" from both sides of the marked diagonal line. | |

6) Carefully cut the Step 5 units apart on the marked diagonal lines. Press the seam allowances toward either side. The completed quarter square triangles should measure 4-1/2" square. |
7) Join two of the Step 6 units with one of the 4-1/2" squares of Fabric 2 as shown to create the top row of the At the Square block. Press the seam allowances toward the Fabric 2 square. Repeat with the remaining Step 6 units and four of the 4-1/2" Fabric 2 squares thus creating the top and bottom quilt block rows for the five At the Square blocks. The completed rows should measure 4-1/2" x 12-1/2". | |
8) Join two of the remaining 4-1/2" Fabric 2 squares with one of the Fabric 6 squares as shown. Press the seam allowances toward the Fabric 2 squares. Repeat with the remaining 4-1/2" squares to complete the middle rows of the At the Square blocks. The completed rows should measure 4-1/2" x 12-1/2". | |
9) Join together two of the rows completed in Step 7 with one of the units completed in Step 8 to finish the At the Square quilt block. Press the seam allowances toward the center row of the block. Repeat with the remaining units. The completed Block should measure 12-1/2" which includes a 1/4" seam allowance on all sides. There should be a total of five blocks to complete the quilt row. | |
10) Join the five At the Square blocks together with a scant 1/4" seam as shown. Press seam allowances in one direction. This completes the second row of the Tenth Anniversary quilt. |
