Fabric

 Focus fabric two

 One background fabric

Cutting the fabric

This Block requires:

eight 3-1/2" squares of background fabric.
four 3-1/2" X 6-1/2" rectangles of focus fabric one.
One 3-1/2" by at least 15" strip of background fabric.
One 3-1/2" by at least 15" strip of focus fabric two.

 Piecing the Block

 1) Using a scant 1/4" seam allowance, sew the 3-1/2" strip of background fabric to the 3-1/2" strip of focus fabric. Press the seam toward the focus fabric.
 2) Straighten one edge of the strips sewn together in Step 1. Next, cut the strip at 3-1/2" intervals as show to create 3-12" X 6 1/2" rectangles. Cut a total four rectangles to make one finished quilt Block.
 3) Lightly mark a line on the diagonal of the wrong side of the eight 3-1/2" squares of the background fabric.
 4) Place on of the 3-1/2" background fabric squares on top of one of the 3-1/2" X 6-1/2" focus fabric one rectangles, right sides together, with the marked diagonal line as shown. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the three remaining focus fabric one rectangles.

5) Trim the unit 1/4" away from the sewn line as shown. Press the seam toward the background fabric.
 6) Taking the units created in Step 5, place one of the remaining 3-1/2" background fabric squares, right sides together, and marked diagonal line positioned as shown on top of the unit. Sew on the marked line. Repeat with the three remaining units

7) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line as shown. Press seam toward the background fabric. The completed rectangle should measure 3-1/2" X 6-1/2".

8) Take one of the units from Step 2 and one of the units Step 7 and piece together as shown being sure that the focus fabrics are placed next to each other. Press seams toward the unit created in Step 7. Repeat with the remaining units for a total of four 6-1/2" pieced squares.
 9) Piece two of the squares created in Step 8 together as shown being sure to place the pieced squares so that the Block "spins" correctly. Press the seam to the right. Repeat with the two remaining pieced squares.
 10) Complete the Clay's Choice quilt Block by piecing together the two units created in Step 9 as shown. The finished Block should measure 12-1/2" square.
