Subject: sewing men's clothes, good fabric & men's/boy's patterns
Hello everyone,
I am completely stymied on finding the following items and wonder if any
of you all can help me with my list:
Patterns: I am looking for the following patterns or for specific
instructions for making such patterns:
- - men's straight collar, slim build dress shirts, with variations for
short, long, and French cuffs
- - men's dress trousers, with variations for belt loops or braces
- - men's top/bottom pajamas
- - men's sport clothing (bicycle jerseys, x-c ski wear, contoured wind
jacket)
- - men's overalls (if you have ever seen a French tradesmen overall,
that's what I am looking for)
- - men's work trousers (similar to dress pants but adjusted for heavier
fabrics and work needs)
- - boy's patterns as above
- - bicycle bags (using cotton duck and flaps)
I've tried looking and buying but good quality, well designed men's
patterns are rarer than teeth on a chicken. Help please. I am willing to
make the patterns but would need a lot of help to do this.
Further, I am having trouble finding the following fabrics (which I want
to use in the above garments):
- - fine quality, cotton broad cloth (for shirts). I do not want Oxford or
box weave fabrics. While white is acceptable and traditional, I also want
a variety of bright colors and bold patterns.
- - fine, tropical weight wool fabric for trousers
- - medium or three season wool fabrics for work trousers
- - wool knits in a variety of colors for sport clothing (is this even
possible?)
I will be obliged to you for any help you can give.
Thank you,
Dorothy

Subject: 530 Record - help please
Hi there
I just purchased this machine at a yard sale - it came with everything but
the manual - so I've got a few questions.
Can it go in reverse? How?
Is there a way to stop the needle from moving while you wind a bobbin.
Also is there a trick to adjusting the tension?
Thanks in advance if any one can help.
Also - any ideas on what this machine is worth - I think I got a great deal
as it was just recently serviced.
\
Thanks again
Rebecca

Maybe you can have your dealer order a manual. I love finding good deals on
machines. Hope this is one for you

Subject: ordering dress patterns
Help is needed from you helpful Bernina friends. I live miles from a
source of dress patterns, and want to order a pattern. I saw two in a
store 150 miles away, that Iiked, but foolishly didn't buy, as I was
hoping to find one of them at half price at Wal*Mart. In a Wal*Mart,
last week, I failed to find either pattern in a pattern book. Where can
I order patterns online, especially McCalls and Kwik Sew. The Kwik Sew
site wouldn't load the catalog for misses patterns. Thanks to someone
for answering!

Rebecca,
If you don't receive an answer here, there are members of the BTS (for
mechanical Bernina owners) who own 530s and who should be able to help you.

Subject: Lutterloh System
I saw a demo of the Lutterloh System for pattern making at Joanne's today.
It is very intriguing and of course I had to buy it. Since there is a 30
day trial period, I wondered if anyone on the list has tried it and what
they think of it. I am a quilter, made a few garments many many pounds and
years ago. So not too experienced with garment making. Any input would be
appreciated.

Brenda, I don't own the system but I have read favorable reports on it. I
think it does allow you to get a good fit. Doesn't it also have special
rulers, etc that go with it?

Subject: Bernina's fabric feed
I just thought I'd address this one more time here with this group...I am
needing to know if all berninas tend to push the top layer of fabric so that
you must trim 1/8" or more off the end of the seam? I know until very
recently none of the berninas had the presser foot pressure adjustment and it
was evidently not a problem. I have sewn on mid-line Vikings, mid and low-end
Janomes, and Pfaffs that do not push the fabric out of line and while some
had the pressure adjustment, it was never needed. Is there a work-around for
this and is it something that you just learn to ignore?
