Sue, what wonderful costumes. I can't imagine the work involved. They are
spectacular! Thanks for the Web page photos.

This has probably been covered many times, but I was away from the list a
couple of years. Can anyone recommend a good slip pattern? The ones in the
stores and catalogs are never long enough. I am a size 20, so many patterns
won't do.

Oh, how I enjoy being back to the list and back to my Bernina!!!!!

I'm new to the list, but I bought a 165E a few weeks ago and, so far, I like
it. I'm still learning to use it. I do like the touch screen and the
'reminder messages". Since this is my first bernina, I can't really compare
it to others. I do like it so far though.

I also got the software but haven't figured it out yet.

Did you want a full slip, or half slip? I am approximately the same size,
and I made myself a half-slip with a pattern from
Kwik-Sew. ----Marilyn-----

Wow, Sue! I am totally impressed! Where did you find patterns for that?
Or did you make them up yourself? (If so, I'm even more impressed.)

Subject: quilting with embroidery thread?

I'm finishing up my "5 Little Duckies" baby quilt (yes, I'm the slowest
worker in the world ), and was looking for variegated blue thread to
quilt wave in the blue sashing. A local sewing machine shop said they
could order some for me, but when it arrived it was embroidery thread.
The brand is Mettler. I felt obliged to buy it because I had special
ordered it, but I was wondering if embroidery thread is suitable for
machine quilting. I've used regular Mettler for that with no problem. Is
embroidery thread as strong as regular, or is it more fragile?

Thanks for any advice.

Has anyone ever ordered patterns from Sewing Patterns.com? Do you
recommend them? I am looking for a mailorder or online source for Kwik
Sew patterns because no stores near me carry them.

This is their website:

http://www.sewingpatterns.com/

If there's another website carrying Kwik Sew that you recommend, please
let me know.

Thanks,

Mary H

Do you ever shop fabric at phoenixtextiles.com?? They have great fabric at terrific prices and just recently added Kwik Sew patterns! I don't know if they stock the entire line but it's a place to start.

When you wrote and asked about this it brought up memories of the time we
were going to a function and I had purchase a gauzy broomstick skirt, but
when I started dressing I realized I didn't have a long slip. I was frantic.
Rifling through my drawer I came across a long nightgown. You know the "One
Size Fits All" kind? I looked and right then I knew I had my slip. I ran to
the serger cut it off at the waist line, stitched down a casing and threaded
through the elastic. A fifteen minute job at most. I have worn that outfit
several times and always smile and say my thanks for my sewing ability.

Subject: sewing studio stretchy linen

Hello all,

A few of y'all asked if I'd share my thoughts on the stretchy linen I got
from sewingstudio.com--I still need to launder it, but so far I can tell you this: it's a good color of navy, has a cross-wise stretch, which is always nice for comfort (read as I sit all day at work, blech). It came in a very reasonable amount of time; I ordered it on Friday night, and I just got it in the mail today, Wednesday. Doesn't hurt that I'm just across the state of Washington from these folks. :)

As for dealing with sewing studio overall, it's been great--they're always
really friendly, and my orders come in a very timely manner.

I'll let everyone know how the pants make up--right now, I have homework to
attend to, so I can't dig into my pants project just yet.

Cheers,
Helen in Seattle, where it's just cold enough, doggone it...
