Thanks a bunch! I've added them to my favorites list. I will definitely
visit the site often & check it out. How close would this be to Houston?
Anywhere close? I've started my collection of design cards (5 now) & have
downloaded a lot. It's as addicting as fabric shopping.

Embroidery Direct here in Richardson, Texas serves as their major
distributor
for at least this part of the country and also all the way
to Florida. I joined their Club Ed for I believe it was
$35.00 per year.
Check them out!

Mary,
It's a good distance from Dallas to Houston, but the mail
works just fine with these. Also they have little
catalogues that can be sent to you ever so often which will
also be helpful.

Subject: Nylon flag fabric

Does anyone know a source for nylon flag fabric...I believe it may be
called ripstock(sp?). I would like to make some flags for our golf cart.
JoAnn's says they haven't carried it in 2 years. We are in the
Ocala/Leesburg FL area.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA....Pat

Try Hancock's and Joann's online for Ripstop. If that doesn't work here's a
source that will give you retail and online places to purchase it. Great to
keep in favorites for those difficult-to-locate-locally fabrics.

Goodness, which paper was that? I haven't even seen it yet, unless it was
the Boston Globe.
Thank you!

The book is called "Pilot Error: Anatomy of a Plane Crash" and I most
assuredly did write it. It was released by Brassey's on May 1 and received
a glowing review in the Boston Globe, of which I have a hard copy.
And now for the sewing part of the post: today I made a child's jumper and
am finishing a hot pink silk dupioni backless top. Tonight I am teaching my
first sewing class. I am more nervous about standing in front of students
and telling them about fabric etc, than I am about writing a book.

Subject: Phaedra's book and my quilt

Just went to Amazon.com and checked out Phaedra's book. Did a search using
her last name (Hise) and the book came right up. Looks quite interesting, and
the 2 Amazon customers who have read it gave it 5 star ratings. Congrats
Phaedra!!! Way to go!!

Now to my poor, neglected quilt,a Jacob's Ladder. Spring is in full blast, and
so is my gardening fever. Not enough hours in the day to putter in the
garden and do my quilt,so the poor quilt is losing out. Even skipped my
beloved quilting class the past 2 weeks because I did not want to give up an
evening in the yard. This is my very favorite time of year, and dreams of
new vines have replaced dreams of completed quilts. Few more months and
Central CA will be an oven and I will want to stay in an air conditioned
house to quilt.

Subject: bernina boards

I'm still waiting to get a machine that does what it's supposed to but in
the meantime I thought I'd take a look at what's inside to see if I could
identify what I suspect to be the wrong board (163 instead of 153 QE)
Imagine my surprise when I removed the panel on the right hand side by the
on/off switch to inspect the board and find out that it's made in China! Now
I have nothing against Chinese goods per se but I thought "made in
Switzerland" meant that all of it was made in Switzerland, not just
assembled. Am I being naive in this age of globalisation? Perhaps Chinese
computer engineering is better than Swiss but it did take me aback rather.
Does everyone have a Chinese board in their computerized machines?

I've received no reply from Switzerland following my complaint to them about
the 153. The dealer here says he's contacted them. US Bernina are not
interested in dealing with me because it wasn't bought there, neither is UK
where I bought it because I'm living in Hong Kong so I'm kind of stuck with
a newbie agent who doesn't really know too much and doesn't have a shop or
many support facilities.

STOP PRESS... a mail this morning from Bernina (I sent three yesterday!) to
say that the correct board had now been sent from Switzerland. Since I self
diagnosed the problem or at least suggested the probability I hope I was
correct!

Oh for some reliability!
