Someone was looking for pink zebra stripe a while back and today while
browsing I ran across some in faux fur if you are still looking. At
www.equilter.com you can browse or put in a search for Faux Fur- Pink Zebra
Stripe, 58" wide, $13.95 yd, product ID is FAFZBRPI. These people have been
great to shop with. Not only are they nice, but they ship what I need
quickly, wrapped nicely. That matters since my UPS man throws things onto
our porch when one of our dogs is in a particularly bad mood and the man
doesn't want to get out.

Amen to that one Cheryl--however, it should be noted that it was not sent to
you intentionally. Seems this thing forwards itself along quite nicely,
completely without assistance. I received that icky klez virus in a piece
of spam email. All's I did was highlight it, and it downloaded itself onto
my laptop, and helped itself to 260 files. After using Symantec's fix, and
installing Norton on my poor little laptop, I have to reinstall the
Operating System to get my laptop completely working again. It mostly works
after wiping it clean, save for some small things like formatting disks, the
cmd (command prompt) command, Office 2000, little stuff. ;)

Now, to make this at least 50% sewing related--what are we all doing for our
spring sewing? I'm still working on a Hawaiian shirt for my boyfriend
(darned school anyway--takes up a lot of time), and planning a big ol' comfy
robe for him. I got the terry cloth off of Fabric.com, and wow it's nice.
We were in a vintage clothing store the other weekend while waiting for a
table for breakfast (anyone who visits Seattle, I highly recommend the
Longshoreman's Daughter for breakfast, it's located in Fremont and worth the
wait), and we found some incredibly cute (and incredibly too small for me)
linen straight-legged pants. I would hazard a guess that they were
cigarette leg pants, altho I really don't know my terminology where vintage
fashions are concerned. I have an old burda pattern for something very
similar, so I went shopping for linen this weekend for them. Found some
yummy Ralph Lauren linen at Pacific Fabrics for a modest $30/yard. Zoikes!
After oohing and aahing over it, I decided to do a mock up in something old
from my stash, and THEN get the good stuff. And wait until my next payday.
:)

What's on the spring sewing list for y'all?

Cheers,
Helen in Seattle, where we're having one of the coldest mays I can
remember--where's my fleece again??

Thank you Peggy! It was me looking for the pink zebra stripe fabric. This
is great. I appreciate you finding this for me. My daughter will be
thrilled with it!

I purchased one yard of 9 flowered fabrics today. I am wanting to make a
Watercolor Quilt. Does anybody know of a website where there is a pattern I
could follow of some sort? I know it is done with lots of little squares.
I could just wing it, but would be good to read about it a little more.

Thanks again Peggy!!
Liz

Helen in Seattle,

You might want to check out www.fashionfabricsclub.com. They have lots of great linen like fabric in fashionable colors. I have ordered from them and am very satisfied. They send swatches every 3 or 4 weeks if you join their club (it costs $15.00 a year). The swatches are nice because you get to feel the fabric. They also sell matching Gutermann thread at 1.50 per
spool. NAYY Shirl in Woodstock, Ga.

Subject: spring sewing...

Hi all,

*Finally* finished Max's red flannelette truck-pocket overalls on Sunday
morning and gave them to him at lunch. It was his 3-month birthday :-)
He's finally caught up with gaining weight and is chubby in all the right
baby places (cheeks, knees, fingers, ya know...). You can't tell at all how
sick the little guy was a couple of months ago. His mom thinks the overalls
should fit in about a month and she is so happy 'cause when he wears them he
won't look like all the other kids :-) (They live in an affluent
neighbourhood and all the kids are dressed in head-to-toe Baby Gap I think
LOL.)

This morning I sewed up the cheerleader skirt for my mom's Mother's Day
present (a Cabbage Patch doll with her blond hair and green eyes, dressed in
a cheerleader uniform in the colours of her alma mater). I have the top cut
out, except for the two-layered applique "M", and will be sewing it up
tonight. I also have to design a pair of tight-fitting panties (all the CPK
patterns I have are for "poufy" baby-doll panties, not proper undies).

For my nana I have given up on the smocking and will be faking it by sewing
an overall diamond pattern on the bodice fabric and pulling the bobbin
thread to give the piece some dimension. Good enough for a
doll...especially since I have less than a week to finish!

For Alan's mom I have to cut up old jeans and a t-shirt of his to make her
doll's clothes. Plus I have to make socks and shoes for the gang.

Oh, and I got a little job :-) I'll be starting work in one of the local
quilt shops (aka heaven LOL) Thursday. Only a couple of days a week and for
minimum wage but fun, fun, fun and a way to supplement my accounting
practice income during the slow season and while I am still building a
client base. Wahoo!

Connie, the owner, said that one of the things the staff gets to do in the
summer when it is quiet is actually sew. I'm gonna get *paid* to *sew*!
This is when she gets new patterns made up to display in the store and such.
Very convenient for me since the store machines are Bernina 1008 mechanicals
- - the very same machine I have at home. What a lovely happenstance :-)

So I'll either be quieter around here 'cause I'll have less sewing time or
I'll be even more talkative 'cause I'll see so many cool fabrics and
projects in the store I'll have to share them all with you LOL.

Kelly.

Dear Kelly (LOL) and list!!

I have been lurking for quite a while, being quiet ...for me anyway. But
Kelly, you are absolutely inspiring!!

"So I'll either be quieter around here 'cause I'll have less sewing time or

Well, I work at "my" store part time!! I don't have as much time to sew
(full time job too) - but I have a collection of fabrics to keep me going!!
We are a quilt shop, more than a "sewing store" i.e., not much in the way of
garment patterns, except for quilt style wearables. BUT a million valuable
books, feet, classes!!! With my discount, I am learning more and more every
week, but have not had much time to apply it yet. I am simply pooped lately
when I get home from work. My alternative could be to get up earlier to sew
for an hour ...

But in any case Kelly, keep going. You make me want to try fun stuff again
that can take the skills of just learning, as I am an old beginner lol
...sewed a LOT years ago, but am on information overload as I got a top of
the line machine and serger to learn about ...not complaining, I know I am
very lucky!!

Keep going girlfriend!! You are an inspiration to all of us I am sure!!

Please make sure your florals are densely printed on the fabric. You do not
want too much background showing. You also want to shop for some transition
fabrics to get you from one area to another.
