Subject: off line too long

I've been madly working on scanning designs into Paint Shop
Pro and cleaning them up, then coloring them before putting
them into Artista to digitize. Little did I realize that
I'd have to work so hard or that it would take so long to
clean up a bunch of printed pictures. Now I have so many
emails that there will be no way I can read them all. I'll
skim them, but will be around more frequently. It's been a
mad house here. My DH is writing, preparing, and printing a
year book for his 50th High School reunion and lo and behold
he'd got 3 or 4 computers and printers and 2 scanners
going. Has had for several months now. I'm nearly crazy
from stepping over cords and walking around all that stuff.
So I hide out and worked just as hard doing designs: a duck
wearing red shoes and a bib; a lamb, bear, and rabbit in a
wheelbarrow with balloons in the air, lots of cross stitch
patterns, and a darling Cherished Teddie in a bathtub with
mounds of bubbles plus a tiny teddie sitting beside the
tub. I probably spent 5 days just cleaning up each design
but by golly I've got the scanner and clean up process under
my belt now! On to the emb. machine!!!

I've also been buying baby thing, primarily winter, that are
on sale now and have just about got enough to cover a year's
worth of everyday, non-specific sex garments ready to
embellish!!!!

See you more often now.

Subject: Re: 180 distress call

Here is a repost on this topic:

This topic comes up here fairly regularly. The 180 does have a problem
with it. It is an inductive electric shock, and you are not imagining
it!

>From anecdotal evidence I have gathered in the last few years, I would
guess that as many as half of the 180's do this. They generally only
give a relatively mild shock when you touch a metal part if you sew in a
room where the floor is not a good insulator. I have mostly heard of it
happening in rooms with concrete, terrazzo, or some kinds of tile,
although it has been known to happen even in a carpeted room. Also, not
everyone gets the shocks. It seems like about one person out of three
is particularly sensitive-- I guess some people just have very
conductive skin.

Many dealers will deny the problem, or at best say it is very rare.
That isn't really correct. The problem with the machine is pretty
common, but the combination of machine, environment, and person that
makes it noticeable is uncommon. For instance, using my numbers (which
are from observations and comments from others with the problem, and are
not a scientific study)

If you start with 1000 machines:
   500 will give shocks
166 will be owned by shock-sensitive people
Only 2 or 3 of these people will use their machines in an environment
where is it a noticeable problem.

If you try another from your dealer, you might get lucky and that will
solve your problem. Wearing rubber soled shoes and having a rubber bath
mat under your feet when you sew will also help. I get downright
painful shocks from the knee lift if I sew wearing shorts. A piece of
rubber tubing over the knee lift helps a lot.

Faith (a wonderful Bernina rep on this list) told me that Bernina will
repair the L Board at no charge. That is supposed to fix the problem,
although my dealer says that it doesn't always.

You can also buy yourself an isolation transformer if repairing the L
Board doesn't work.

I have been told that while it is an unpleasant thing, and sometimes
downright painful, it is not dangerous.

This is not one of Bernina's better examples of customer service or high
quality standards!

Hi, I bought an anti static mat for computers about 6 months ago and have
not had a shock since. I was getting them every day. This has worked for me.

My favs are size 9W but they hurt sometimes!! However, they get me
where I want to go and I'd hate to be without them.
My pet Bernina is the 37 though the 20 is a gem also.

If someone quoted you $100 for the circular embroidery attachment, they were
looking for a sucker. It only costs $29.95. I bought mine at a 10% off sale,
too. I have only used it a couple of times; but again, when I think I need
it, I like having it close at hand. At our monthly Bernina Club meeting I
learned to make a neat little Christmas gift bag, which could also be used to
make sachets. I see lots of potential with that one.

Speaking of 25% off sales, Bernina is a sponsor at a lot of the big quilt
shows. If you want to buy a more expensive item....machine or
accessory....that is the place to do it. There are always great deals on
accessories. I bought my 180 at a show and got 25% off plus no interest
financing for 18 months. Although I bought the machine in North Carolina, I
got a certificate to have my local shop paid by Bernina for giving me the
guide classes. I also waited to buy the #50 walking foot and the #55 roller
foot at a 25% quilt show.

That #55 roller foot is advertised for using with plastic, velvet, and
leather; but we used it in our guide class to do outline quilting on a cotton
quilt. What a joy that was!!

Subject: Debra Wagner books

I have two of Debra Wagner's books and love them both. They are:

Teach Yourself Machine Piecing and Quilting

Traditional Quilts, Today's Techniques

The second book is my favorite. It does show how to make the
cording/piping with the piping foot. But it also has a wealth of other
information on machine applique and binding your quilt. Everytime I
read it I learn something new.

No affiliation, just a book lover/collector.

>>Is the circular embroidery attachment really worth the money? It was
around $100 last time I priced one.

Depends on what you think you will use it for. The price marked on mine is
$29.95. Of course I've had it for 6 years, but it is hard to imagine the
price has gone up that much. If you want to make circle angels, it is nice
to have. You can make circles by taping a thumbtack to your machine if you
only want to make a few.

The #5 blind hem foot with the blind hem stitch [#7 on my 1260 and #9 on
my 180] do a perfect invisible-from-the-right-side hem. Far better than
another brand with which I am familiar.
the circulare embroidery attachment is dead easy to use and has great
application for clothes, craft & cushions[pillows to you]. Have a look
at the Pfaff adverisements in magasines where they have done gorgeous
stitching with strong colours.
