Appliquilting - is a one-step method of applique and quilting, invented by American quilter and teacher, Tonee White. |
The reason - to take the worry out of applique. As she says in her book, Appliquilts, "there are enough rules in our lives that we must follow ... quilting [should be used] as a vehicle to express yourself in a happy and enjoyable way." (p. 5) |
I have taken these quilts one step further, by adapting naive, country-style designs to the appliquilt way of doing things. Fusible paper, buttons and pinking shears are essential tools, plus fabrics which enhance the chosen designs. |
Perle cotton is used for the appliquilting process, with the knots being left exposed. This feature adds to the "folk" quality of these creations. |
