Question of the Week

Question for the week of June 10, 2002:

Our question this week comes Chris R

How do you like spray baste? Is there any one product better than others? Is it better for machine or hand quilting, or does it matter? Any hints or warnings?

Kathy in WA :
I have had no problem with the basting spray not holding. I have even had a piece sit for several weeks before returning to it and it held. I mainly use it on small quilts. I usually pin baste near the edges sith safety pins just because that is the part that could get caught and pulled awry. I use whatever is available--I think it is usually June Taylor that I can get. Use in a well ventilated area.

Lisa :
Its great for getting the quilt sandwich together before hand-basting. It is supposed to be used instead of basting, but I dont know if it would hold together during machine quilting. I had no trouble with machine quilting after using the spray. The brand I used is called "Craft Smart". Its good because it can be lifted and restuck. Hence, all the wrinkles can be smoothed out.

Deborah :
I lik to use the basting sprays. I use it mostly on runners & wall hangings. I have used it on large quilts. But be careful not to over spray, it can leave a film on your machine. I use Sullivans.
