Question of the Week

Question for the week of March 26, 2001:

Our question this week comes from Anne Marie

Is there a generally accepted definition of what qualifies a quilt to be a 'miniature'?

carmen :
A miniature is an exact proportional block of a larger one, that does not exceed 4 inches square. Got that from a quilt instructor in Sisters, Oregon.

Annette R. :
Our quilt guild is having a miniature quilt auction and the requirement is that it be less than 40" X 40." Also, I was reading about a mineature quilt competition that said if there are blocks in your mineature quilt, they must be less than 5" square.
Pat :
In order to be an actual "miniature" the quilt should be in the 1 to 12 scale that miniaturists follow. That is, one inch equals one foot. The scale of the fabric, batting, blocks and quilting should also be in proportion to the 1:1 scale. However, there are no such definitions for small scale quilts. Remember, this is for fun, the quilt police aren't coming:)
