Question of the Week

Question for the week of January 22, 2001:

Our question this week comes from Jerald Frank

Has anyone used fusible batting? Were you happy with the results?

Carol :
I used it in a stainglass winter coat as well as using thermalaim. I loved using it very much. Easy to use and warm. I suggest to try it on a small article first. Have fun and good luck.

grace :
thanx for the rest of the patterns.
greatly appreciated. thanx again
Maria in PA :
I bought something to try at Wal-Mart. When I went to use it on some pre-printed panels, I realized there was fusing on only one side. I ended up spraying the other with adhesive. Then the spray gave up before I finished quilting. I'll have to try the wonder-under trick.
Don't make the same mistake.

T Hanson :
I have used fusible batting for craft projects and found that you need a lot of pressure and a lot of heat to apply it to fabric. That causes you to crush the loft of the bat. I ended up using spray adhesive on my next craft project.
Kathleen Race :
Yes, I have and liked it so much that I now make my own with wonder under and regular batting. I iron the wonder under to both sides of the batt and peel off the paper on one side and fuse this to my pieced top and then do the other side and fuse to my backing. I can then quilt the entire thing without pins. I love it!!!!!
Jennine :
I've tried the Gold-Fuse batting and was very happy with the results. The batting has a nice loft, it's easy to stitch and it saved me from having to pin-baste!!! I used it on a crib-size quilt, but would be anxious to try it on a larger project as well.
