Question of the Week

Question for the week of August 21, 2000:

Our question this week comes from Edna

What makes a Great Quilt?

Marie :
You smiled the whole time you picked out the fabric and pattern. You smiled during the cutting, setting and sewing of the blocks.
OK so the corners don't exactly match and it isn't exactly ready for the blue ribbon at the quilt show; but, it is filled with love and smiles so ergo it is a great quilt.

Bahrsmom in Hawaii :
One that induces even one smile, is truly a great quilt.
elaine :
Love! when you make a quilt for someone you love, the joy to you is priceless and even if it were to win a national prize, the joy you have is worth more than any prize. My first quilt had so many mistakes, but my daughter and I love that quilt - because it means something to us.
Laura J. Mashinter :
A great quilt is one that makes you feel good just by making it....and it makes the receipient feel the same....colors, patterns, size make no difference.....
Roni Hunt :
I think a great quilt is one that is made for someone special who uses it and loves it...that's a great quilt.
Matt Erickson in Alberta, Canada :
A great quilt is amply sized and simply designed in soothing colours.
Maria, PA :
A great quilt is any one you finish!
deb :
A great quilt is having one that your grandmother made a lon time ago given to youby someone in the family, when you never knew the quilt existed
anthony in Tampa :
To me, a truly great quilt is one you remember fondly when it's not there with you. It is usually not be a perfect quilt or even a pretty quilt, but it sticks to your heart and you find yourself smiling inside when you think of it.
Silke :
A great quilt is one you fall in love with again and again everytime you look at it. You love to touch it and if you're the one who made it, you beam with pride everytime you see it, no matter whether it's "perfect" or not.
masterharper :
What makes a great quilt? Its the love you put into it making it special. Whether to keep or give any quilt is a great quilt.
Gizmo :
A great quilt is your quilt - the one where you do your own thing and choose the pattern and the color scheme you like. Never mind if other people don't like the design or the colors. Be selfish - please yourself and enjoy quilting (it has taken me 18 years to learn the above lesson!)
Elena :
A great quilt is one made with love. It really doesn't matter if the colors don't quite go, or if the points don't quite match, or if the stuffing half comes out in a month or two. If the quilt was made with love it has personal meaning and then it is a great quilt.
Brenda :
I great quilt is one that you have enjoyed making and sharing with the ones closest to your heart.
Kenny Turner :
A great Quilt is one that is made with love and affection and the those feelings are passed on to whoever recieves that quilt in its future.

Jennine :
A great quilt has personal meaning either to the maker or the recipient...preferably both! Sometimes technical perfection isn't the most important thing!
sherry :
A great quilt has alot of beautiful quilting stitches, either by hand or machine.
