Five 6-7/8" squares of Fabric 6 - one for every two blocks

1) Lightly make a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 6-7/8" Fabric 6 blocks. | |
2) Place the 6-7/8" Fabric 6 blocks, right sides together, with the 6-7/8" Fabric 1 blocks making sure that the edges are even. Sew a scant 1/4" away from both sides of the diagonal line. | |
3) Cut the 6-7/8" blocks apart on the marked diagonal line. | |
4) Press seam allowance toward the darker fabric. The blocks should now measure 6-1/2" squares. For the quilt row, there should be a total of ten blocks. | |
5) Lightly mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of all of the 3-1/2" squares. | |
6) Place one Fabric 6 3-1/2 square on one of the Step Four units over the Fabric 1 triangle as shown, right sides together. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the remaining 3-1/2" Fabric 6 squares and Step Four units. | |
7) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn diagonal line on all the Step Six units. | |
8) Press seam allowances toward the 3-1/2" square. | |
9) Place one Fabric 1 3-1/2 square on one of the Step Eight units over the Fabric 6 triangle as shown, right sides together. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the remaining 3-1/2" Fabric 1 squares and Step Eight units. | |
10) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn diagonal line on all the Step Nine units. | |
11) Press seam allowances toward the 3-1/2" square. The completed ZigZag Block should measure 6-1/2" which includes a 1/4" seam allowance on all sides. There should be a total of ten blocks to complete the quilt row. | |
12) Join the ten completed ZigZag blocks together with a scant 1/4" seam as shown. Press seam allowances in one direction. This completes the first row of the Tenth Anniversary quilt. |
