1) Light mark a diagonal line on the back of the six 2" background fabric squares as shown. | |
2) Place one of the 2" background fabric squares on top of one of the 3-1/2" x 2" Fabric A rectangles, right sides together, with the marked diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the two remaining Fabric A rectangles. | |

3) Trim fabric 1/4" from the sewn diagonal line as shown. Press seam toward the background fabric. |
4) Place one of the 2" background fabric squares on top of the unit completed in Step 3 with the right sides together and the diagonal line placed as shown. Sew the fabrics together on the diagonal line. Repeat with the two remaining units from Step 3. | |

5) Trim fabric 1/4" from the sewn diagonal line as shown. Press seam toward the background fabric. The completed unit should measure 3-1/2" x 2". |
6) Piece the three units completed in Step 5 together as shown. Press the seam allowances down toward the points Step 5 units. The completed unit should measure 3-1/2" x 5". | |
7) Take the 1-1/2" x 2" rectangle of Fabric B and the two 1-1/2" x 2" rectangles of background fabric and piece together as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the Fabric B rectangle. This completed unit should measure 2" x 3-1/2". | |
8) Piece together the unit completed in Step 6 and the unit completed in Step 7 as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the unit completed in Step 7. This completed unit should measure 3-1/2" x 6-1/2". | |
9) Take the two 2" x 6-1/2" rectangles of background fabric and the unit completed in Step 8 and piece together as shown to form the completed Pine Tree Block. Press the seam allowances toward the background fabric rectangles. The completed Block should measure 6-1/2" including a 1/4: seam allowance on all sides. |
