Cutting the fabric

This Block requires:
one 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" rectangle of background fabric
 one 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" rectangle of Fabric B
 four 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles of Fabric C
four 3-1/2" squares of Fabric A
four 3-1/2" squares of Fabric B
four 3-1/2" squares of background fabric

 Piecing the Block

 1) Place the two 3 7/8" x 7 3/4" rectangles with right sides together, lightest of the two fabrics on top. Lightly draw a straight line 3 7/8" from the short edge dividing the rectangle in half and forming two squares. Then draw two diagonal lines through the center of the two squares as shown.

Instead of drawing on your fabric, you can also use Easy Piecing Triangle Templates.

 2) Still holding the two rectangles together, sew a 1/4" away from the diagonal line on both sides.

3) Cut the rectangles apart on the drawn lines creating four half square triangle components. Press the seams to the darker fabric. The finished units should measure 3-1/2".
 4) Take one of the half square triangle units completed in Step 3 and piece together with one of the 3-1/2" squares of Fabric A being sure to place the half square triangle unit as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the Fabric A square. Repeat with the remaining half square triangles and 3-1/2" Fabric A squares. The completed units should measure 3-1/2" x 6-1/2".

5) Lightly mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 3-1/2" background squares as shown.

Next, mark a diagonal line on the back of the 3-1/2" Fabric B squares as shown.

 6) Place one the 3-1/2" background fabric squares on the 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" Fabric C rectangle as shown making sure that the right sides are facing each other. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the remaining 3-1/2" background fabric squares and Fabric C retangles.

7) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn diagonal line. Press the seam allowance toward the background fabric.
 8) Place the 3-1/2" Fabric B square on top of the unit completed in Step 7, right sides together with the diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the remaining Step 7 units and 3-1/2" Fabric B squares.

9) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn diagonal line. Press the seam allowance toward Fabric B. The completed unit should measure 3-1/2" x 6-1/2".
 10) Piece one of the units completed in Step 4 with one of the units completed in Step 9 as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the unit completed in Step 4. Repeat with the remaining units. This completed unit should measure 6-1/2" square.
 11) Piece together two of the units completed in Step 10 making sure that the units are placed as shown. Press the seam allowance to the left. Repeat with the two remaining Step 10 units. The completed unit should measure 6-1/2" x 12-1/2".
 12) Piece the two units completed in Step 11 together to complete the Cubed Lattice quilt Block making sure that the units are pleaced as shown. Press the seam allowance in either direction. The completed quilt Block should measure 12-1/2" square which includes a 1/4" seam allowance on all sides.
