The Artista list is "Marlene's" and she does read and answer questions on
the list. At this time many of the Educators are in Switzerland and terribly
busy. My employer and 3 other employee's are there working hard learning
about all of the "new toys" you all will be wanting this coming year.

I couldn't live without my #37 1/4 inch foot, foot #10 the edge stitch foot,
and of course #1 foot. Over the years I've collected many Bernina presser
feet and they are just the best made.

Hi,
A newbie lurker here.....but I'll come out to comment on my favorite feet.
As an heirloom sewer I like to use the buttonhole foot with the two grooves
to make and attach mini-piping for Peter Pan collars, sleeve cuffs, yokes,
etc. I usually do this on my 930 (#492) but it is also good on my 180
(forget the # and my 180 is having its annual checkup..prolonged by my
dealer's absence to Bernina Switzerland I think! ). The knee lift is
invaluable in this application!!

bargain so I now have 2. Anyone interested in the extra one email me

I have a friend who had problems with a dealer not fixing his machine
correctly. This was a used machine he purchased from another party. When he
had it tuned, he thought they broke a wire to the computer board when
working on it. He called Bernina directly off the website, and got a call
from the local dealer the very next day. They assured him they would do
whatever it would take to make the machine function correctly, and put in a
brand new computer board. They even told him they would replace the 2nd
board if he wanted them too at no charge.
It sounds like Bernina is really tired of hearing about the poor customer
service at so many dealerships, and is really cracking down on the dealers
to provide excellent service. I was impressed. Call Bernina directly and
explain your problem.

Lavon, the 830's are great machines and more highly regarded. I believe you
would love the upgrade but the 2 are probably very similar. I believe you
would not regret the change if you can find a good one.

Mary, the #37 is the patch-work, or 1/4" foot. I have it and like it but i
don't like it better than #10 which is the edge-stitching foot! That one you
must get if you don't have it already. The open-toe foot is another favorite
and indeed it is nice also. I was hoping to learn about some new ones that I
didn't know i wanted! LOL!

It is used for quilting. This foot makes a perfect 1/4" seam and has 1/4"
marks so you can stop 1/4" from the seam.

#37 is the patchwork foot, favored by quilters. My favorites would be the
#10, which is just such a staple everyone should have one, my pintuck foot
(#31) which is just fun, and my cording foot #12C, which I do a lot of
piping with. I adore Bernina feet!

Subject: magnifying attachment? favorite foot

Ok, since we're on the subject of feet and attachments, I'm curious to know
if anyone has tried the magnifying attachment?

I've been trying the machine applique and it's been lots of fun, but the
stitch is so tiny and it's hard to see around the guard that covers the take
up arm to see the stitching (I have my machine in a table). If I get really
close I can put my nose on the guard and then see the needle where it enters
the fabric (it has to be right! next to the applique so it doesn't show) but
I get back pain and cross eyed!! I could also move my machine out of the
table I suppose, but then I have to put it back in the do quilting, it would
just be changing one back problem for another!

I'm wondering if the magnifying attachment would allow me to sit up
correctly and still see around that guard? (I have the 153QE). I've looked
on the Bernina site but can't seem to find any information on the
attachment. My dealer was out of them but has ordered one for me to try, so
I will see eventually, I just thought I'd get your opinions.

Thanks all! (OH, my most used foot is ,because I quilt, the quilting foot
#37, of course. I also like the walking foot and the open toed embroidery
foot (#20).

You can make fringe with the #8 foot. I like the #14 foot for inserting slot
zippers and the # 37 for quilting, which I do daily. I also like the #29 for
stippling and the #18 for attaching buttons because I never sew buttons on
by hand. Actually I love all of my Bernina Feet they make sewing so easy and
accurate.

I have the magnifying attachment and love it. It comes with 3
different magnifiers.
One thing you should be aware of -- If you have the new light the
installation of the bracket is not as pictured in the instructions - at
least mine wasn't. I was all set to return it, but the tech installed it
for me. I watched him and it is quite involved when you have the new light.
If you're thinking of buying it and have the new type light on your
artista -- I would insist on having the tech install it for me. (This is
coming from someone who builds her own computers and is not afraid of
working on mechanical things).
